Biography

Dr Ilias Papagiannopoulos is Assistant Professor of Modern Political Philosophy and the Political Philosophy of International Relations at the Department of International and European Studies, University of Piraeus.

He holds a PhD in Political Philosophy and International Relations from Panteion University, an MA in Political Science and Political Theory from the University of Essex (UK), and a BA in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Athens.

He has taught Political Philosophy, History of Political Ideas, and Political Theory of International Relations at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at the University of Piraeus, Panteion University, and the Hellenic Open University.

His research interests focus on Modern Political Philosophy, the Political Philosophy of International Relations, the concept of freedom in modern political thought, and the relationship between ethics and politics.

Research

Dr Papagiannopoulos’s current research focuses on Modern Political Philosophy and the Philosophy of International Relations, especially on the concept of freedom and its interpretations in modern and contemporary political thought.

He has published articles and book chapters on Hobbes, Kant, Hegel, Hannah Arendt, and other major thinkers, as well as on issues concerning the ethical foundations of international relations and the relation between sovereignty and democracy in modern political thought.
